Welcome to Blaydon GP Led Practice

Our Practice is highly patient focused and we have a multidisciplinary approach to patients’ health care. We aim to deliver the best for our patients by combining the skills of the practice team with other health and social care workers in the community.

We are confident that our website will provide clear and concise help and give our patients the information they require in an easy and convenient format. It has been designed with the patient’s needs at the forefront of everything, from checking surgery times to letting us know what you think of us.

Serving You

Our dedicated team are here to treat those minor ailments that occur as well as providing specialist management of long-term conditions and clinics covering a wide range of healthcare issues. The technology also means you can now do a lot of things from the comfort of your home such as order a repeat prescription or cancel an appointment.

Partners in Care

Once registered, patients and healthcare professionals work together to ensure the most appropriate care is provided. This partnership philosophy extends even further and our active patient group exists to make sure that patient needs and the practice offering are always heading in the same direction.

Prescription requests

48 hours are required for repeat prescriptions Monday to Friday.  For example if you ordered your repeat prescription on a Monday morning it will not be ready for collection until the Wednesday morning.  If however you order your prescription on a Friday morning this will not be ready for collection until the Tuesday morning, as the surgery is closed at weekends.

During bank holiday periods the turn-around time for repeat prescriptions will increase, therefore during bank holiday periods such as Christmas and Easter please ensure you order your medication in good time so that you have enough medication during the bank holiday periods.

Practice Extended Hours Service

We are delighted to offer our patients appointments with Dr Akhtar on Thursday evenings 6pm-8pm and Saturday mornings 9am-1pm commencing Thursday 28th September 2017.  Please call reception to book your appointment.

GDPR

General Data Protection Regulation

For the first time in more than 20 years, this May will see a major overhaul of European data regulations, reforming rules that were set before popular use of the internet, and before smartphones were invented.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which takes effect on 25 May 2018 will apply equally to data controllers and processors who carry out processing involving sensitive personal (health) data.

Many of the GDPR’s principles are much the same as those in the current Data Protection Act (DPA) however the GDPR does introduce some important changes.  It builds on the rights in existing legislation, but under the new regulation, individuals rights have been significantly enhanced to deal with challenges of the online world to ensure individuals have effective control of how their personal data is used.

A Data Protection Officer will be appointed to act as the point of contact for individuals on issues over the processing of their personal data or exercising their rights under GDPR.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is producing a communications toolkit which will be launched on 9 April 2018.  CBC Health will use this along with other guidance to assist with the adaptation of current data protection communication materials, and these will be made available in practice in time for the launch of the new regulation in May, the purpose of which will be to inform patients and service users how and why personal data will be used, the legal basis for processing the data, retention periods i.e. how long data will be stored for, and details of how to complain.
